Questions:
WHAT DO I NEED TO GET STARTED?
The easiest way to say it is… “The better the photo of the person, pet or home, the better the outcome.” Scott feels that he has the best outcome with he’s given a photo showcasing the subject’s eyes or a clear image of the house/home. We decided to show the reference photos Scott used next to the drawings on the gallery page so you could get an idea of what he was working with when the art was being created.
HOW LONG DOES IT TAKE?:
Once an order has been confirmed it’s usually started in the first 24-48 hours unless other commissions were taking in front of yours. Scott will be in contact during the process and is very respectful of deadlines.
WHAT SIZES ARE THERE TO PICK FROM?
Working in “industry standard” sizes allows art to be matted/framed in the most cost effective way. 8x10, 11x14 and 16x20 are the best sellers. Custom sizes can be done if desired. Framing for these pieces are done by a 3rd party and pricing is quoted based on their pricing.
WHY DOES IT COST MORE TO ADD EXTRA PEOPLE OR PETS TO A DRAWING?
Each likeness in a drawing is given the same “dedication to detail”. Rather than multiplying the cost 100% per likeness though Scott has tried to simplify the ordering process by only adding $40.00 per extra likeness to the order total. In other words, if you order a two person 8x10 drawing it’s NOT the 8x10 cost times two. It’s the 8x10 cost with $40.00 added. Three people in the drawing means 8x10 cost plus $80.00 and so forth.
As you look at Scott’s price page please consider how many likenesses and how that slight up-charge will effect your total.
WHY DOESN’T SCOTT DRAW PORTRAITS IN COLOR?
Scott has always tried to consider “realistic purchase price expectations” when setting his rates. Color takes a lot longer to render which would have influenced his pricing.
Working in the relatively fast medium of graphite has also allowed Scott to separate his more cartoony (caricatures, books, card) brand and put forth a more “traditional” portrait style his customers like. If you’re really interested in color have a conversation with Scott and figure out if it can be done. He’ll forward you additional samples so you’ll see what that style will look like as compared to the graphite.
WHY AM I SEEING COLOR HOUSE PORTRAITS SAMPLES AFTER READING THAT SCOTT DOESN”T DO PEOPLE OR PETS IN COLOR?
Scott is a plein air landscape artist so he feels comfortable rendering “some” house portraits and their surrounding landscape features in color. It simple depends on the reference photo. Pricing is the same as Graphite. The color samples can be found on their own separate page. Should you have a desire for color please specifically note on the order form when ordering. Oh yes___ he also does ink!
FRAMING__ CAN SCOTT GIVE ME ANY COLOR MAT AND FRAME?
With the previous mentioned “being cost effective” in mind, working in standard sizes allows Scott to order frames/mats at cost. This can sometimes save hundred of dollars in professional framer fees that he passes along to you. Colors choices are usually limited to white/off white/beige mats and black or dark wood toned frames that compliment graphite. If custom framing is needed please consider the extra time a third party framer will take and the pricing increase it will incur.
PAYMENT OPTIONS
Personal Checks, Cash, Pay Pal or Venmo. Sorry, no credit cards at this time.
WHAT IS THE ART DRAWN ON?
Scott usually uses white cold press illustration board. Depending on your vision he can also work on tinted paper (cool gray or sepia brown) and add white highlights. See Gallery for a few samples of that style.
WHERE TO HANG YOUR ART?
It’s usually requested that original artwork is not hung on a wall that receives constant direct sunlight or in a location that has high humidity. Other than that… wherever you want.

WHATS A “WATCH SCOTT DRAW YOUR ORDER” VIDEO AND IS THERE AN EXTRA CHARGE?

TESTIMONIALS
When Scott started my drawing I had just received a diagnosis that the best dog I’ve ever had, Brutus, had T-cell lymphoma and was on very borrowed time. I took a last hurrah camping trip in Maine with him and captured so many wonderful pictures. My favorite part of Scott’s portrait of Brutus is that he captured his eyes so well! He was a big goofball with the biggest heart ever and the eyes he drew look so real life. His portrait is sitting in my family room where I constantly get compliments of how well he captured Brutus’s personality. It’s the perfect remembrance of Brutus and I can’t thank him enough.
Scott did masterpiece for us 2-3 years ago. The first time I saw it .. brought tears to my eyes. Scott captured my Hunter with such beauty .. it was as if I was looking into Hunter”s eyes ... his soul. Wonderful experience .. I will treasure this drawing of my Hunter always.
My first portrait from Scott was a pet portrait. He captured my kitten perfectly. Loved it so much I commissioned him to do a portrait of my daughter-in-law and grandson. She loved it....I loved it....it was GREAT! Scott’s attention to detail is phenomenal. It’s clear from his finished project that he loves what he does and cares about his work. Can’t recommend him highly enough! 5 STARS for this fantastic artist!

Omg, Scott did a great job on my beagles! I feel like he captured their personalities besides their looks. More than I expected!

So grateful for the pet portrait that Scott did of my three babies. He captured the essence of their personalities and the expressions in their eyes better than I ever thought possible. Shortly afterwards we lost one of our pets and I’m so grateful to have this perfect likeness of my babies and this snapshot in time to look back on. Scott’s work is amazing!

I was so amazed by Scott’s talent. The framed art of my mother and Father in law after they had passed is hanging on my wall that i look at daily. We lost my brother in law recently after a long hard fought battle with cancer. We asked him to make a portrait of every stage of his life and it came out even better than we could hoped for.

An awesome artist! Very easy to work with and talk to! Scott drew me a portrait of my dog Peanut not too long after her passing. For me it was very special, he was spot on with every detail! I will always be grateful for the time Scott put into a drawing that meant so much to me!
Not to mention all the art in his studio, I really enjoyed looking at all of them!
